My 5-point plan for better roads in the Town of Oyster Bay! A plan that prioritizes the worst roads FIRST.
- Assess all 707 miles of roads and letter grade them, 1-10. 10 being the worst.
- Put the grade, year last paved and expectation of repaving into a publicly accessible database, so you can see exactly where you stand.
- Determine and execute the best course of action for a 2 year, 5 year and a 10 year plan to do in-house or subcontract and negotiate the best rates and quality so we get it done and properly! Did you know the TOB exclusively pays subcontractors $700,000 a mile to repave a road? We can get this down to under $500K.
- Have bi-annual public Town Hall meetings focused on roads driven by the people to re-evaluate the plan!
- Attack on Pot Holes. Let’s be accountable! Let’s offer a pothole fill guarantee to the people! We need easy 311, email and app reporting of any pothole. 4 Business days for minor, 7 for major, while unfixable get a database check to ensure attention and repaving.
Let’s prioritize and get grades 10, 9 and 8 off the list within 2 years. Then we will get every road at or beneath a 4 in the town within 5 years. We can attack roads and solve this problem!
Commuter Train Parking
Here are my ideas to attack the parking problem(s):
Hicksville. Build a second level on the smaller lot next to the moving and storage building business. That would add 150 spots.
Syosset. Build a second level on the smaller lot next to the Verizon building. That would add 150 spots.
The 100+ Acre capped Robbins Lane Cerro Wire property. Did you know this used to be a train stop until the 1960s? Lets pave it and seal it up further, since its capped. We could easily add 1500 Parking Spaces! This would end our parking problem in totality and for decades. This would immediately free up 100s of spaces in Hicksville, Syosset AND give people from Jericho, Plainedge, Oyster Bay, Old Brookville easy and accessible parking! It’s also so big that we could handle parking from Suffolk and charge users a daily fee. This would generate millions in new revenue just for road repair every year!
As a short term fix that does not involve the MTA, the town owns properties it is not using, close to train stations! Let’s use that property for just 2 hour windows where people with TOB stickers park and take a short bus ride! Say from 7-9am and 4-6pm.
Electrify the North Shore train service going from Glen Head, Glen Cove, Bayville and Oyster Bay instead of diesel service. This would provide faster, more reliable, cleaner and more regular service for these communities and take pressure off the roads and Syosset and Hicksville Parking Stations.
It should a be a fundamental priority for the TOB Government to provide adequate commuter parking so people can get to work and pay their taxes. The people have been failed. TOB has sold 22,000 stickers but only have 6,500 spots! Right now in most TOB towns, you have to get to the station before 6:50am. If you can’t make that you either have to drive or get someone to drop you off. Or if you’re a senior citizen and you want to get into the city during the weekday, you have to drive or take an car service. Maybe you don’t use parking, but it negatively impacts your homes resale value.
We must take action now! The Hicksville third rail is near completion. What’s going to happen when we have even more capacity? We must be a trusted and reliable partner to the MTA and other local officials that will get this done!
A 311 System
The TOB needs a 311 system! Have a problem? We should be make it easy for residents to get the help they need! One number and they get you right to the right place. Any question, problem, concern that isn’t immediately resolved you get a ticket number over the phone or to your email, describing the issue so when it’s resolved you get a confirmation and if it isn’t- you have a record of it, so you hold us accountable! This is just basic customer service! Treat people right!
The town website is a scattered, self-serving mess. It needs better navigation to immediately find what you need, discover the right resource and get on with your life. There is no reason why the town site can’t easily have a self directed, menu system on the home page. We could also used that to create a mobile or app site. We can incorporate the ticket system, so every request is tracked and the town is accountable to you!
Try and find where to put in a pothole fill request on the town’s website, hint it does not exist. Let make it simple short cuts for residents to find out solutions and requests to these problems! What is your issue? A garbage, sidewalk, pothole, noise, tree, recycling, building permit, snow removal problem– it’s information you need. Government works for you, you pay dearly for it- let’s make it easy.
Tobay Beach Replenishment
Tobay Beach, our treasure is nearly gone, we need to fix this yesterday! I’ve been going there since I was a boy, growing up in Massapequa. I’ve taken my family and girls there for the last 20 years and it’s been great. Now I’m 60. But for the last 10 years since Venditto and now Saladino have led, the beach has deteriorated and they’ve done NOTHING about it. The dunes are at risk, the facilities are at risk and the parkway is at risk.
My plan is to build a strong personal relationship with the Army Corp of Engineers, our Senators, our Government and travel to Wash DC on my dime or wherever I need to go to get this fixed! I will not rest until this is resolved! We cannot lose one of our greatest treasures because our leadership failed us. If we wait any longer the damage will get even more costly and possible irreparable!
One of the greatest issues we face in the current Saladino administration, is that no one trusts them. They are worried about being undercut by a notorious partner that will either showboat you, lie or go corrupt. I’ve been a reliable honest and smart partner in my 40 years in business and I get things done. I’m not looking for personal credit, the credit is getting the job done as a team, for the people you serve.
Politicians are notorious for getting greedy, with 2/3 of a billion in debt, just look at the mess we’re in. Our entire team supports term limits. We are doing these jobs to serve community. So we will serve no more than 10 years (if you get reelected) in any job. Me? I’m 60 years old. A town council seat is for 4 years. I will not serve any longer than 2 terms in any political position. I’m different. This job is not a stepping stone for me, this is the job! I am only doing this only to use my expertise and give back to serve my community. Then I’ll be off to do something else, might start another company, might retire. Let me do a great job for you, first!
Representation and accountability are missing from today’s politicians ESPECIALLY in the TOB. Councilmanic would split the Town of Oyster Bay into 6 distinct districts. With 6 Town Council seats, while we would all vote for on everything, you would have your own local person responsible to you. You would know them. They would know you. You would tell them your issues and if they didn’t perform, you would not vote them back.
When you’ve got 300,000 people to serve, that’s where the TOB goes wrong today. When you’ve got 6 out of 7 seats all from Massapequa and you live further North of Massapequa, now you know why you are underserved. It’s why the ball fields are horrible in Syosset, or why the roads in Planview, Syosset and Woodbury and Bayville are third world. It’s conversely why the fields in Massapequa are first class.
You not surprised that the Saladino Administration does not support Councilmanic Districts or Term Limits. They need these jobs, our team does not. We’re in it for you.
For your own well being, Please VOTE. Show up on Nov 5th and make a choice for the betterment of your community.
